“Vision For God”

The story of Dr Margaret Brand by
Dr Margaret Brand with Dr James Jost

Discovery House Publishing ISBN 1-57293-138-8

This is a unique biography/autobiography of Dr Margaret Brand. Born in England and brought up in South Africa, she was educated at boarding school in England followed by medical training in London. She then married Paul Brand and together they moved to Vellore in South India.

In an unexpected and providential way Dr Margret found herself thrust into the unexplored field of leprosy ophthalmology and went on to become a world expert in her field.

Later in her life she travelled on consulting trips with her husband to Turkey, Ethiopia and China.  John and I met two Turkish specialist hand physiotherapists who remembered the Brand’s visit to Istanbul. At that time Leprosy was still prevalent in Turkey. These girls told us what a privilege it was to meet and be trained and inspired by them.

Philip Yancey writes in his forward to this book:
Having spent many hours with Margret and Paul I cannot help but think this was the vision God had for humanity – talented people serving others with cheer and compassion while embracing life - all of it – with contentment and gratitude. Maybe you too will get a glimpse of what God had in mind
