Mission to Seafarers -
"Flying Angel"

The world's first seafarers support boat was commissioned "Flying Angel", by HRH The Prince of Wales, in a ceremony on Dubai Creek on 28th February.

The custom-built boat provides an Internet Cafe, a library with both educational and fictional DVDs and books, a medical clinic with a fully trained paramedic, access to telecommunications and pastoral and spiritual support with a dedicated Welfare Officer and Chaplain.

"Flying Angel" will serve seafarers whose ships use the east coast anchorage of the UAE. It is the second largest bunkering anchorage in the world, with 100 to 150 ships there at any one time. At present as many as 2,000 seafarers who crew these ships are unable to go ashore to contact their families, sometimes for many months. The service will operate every week for 72 hours at a time, by sailing out to the ships, allowing seafarers to step off for a period of rest and relaxation and to use the facilities on offer.
