The Protestant Church in Oman |
|
The Protestant Church in Oman is exactly
that, a Protestant Church. This is reflected by its worship styles and
diversity of clerical personnel. There is a Thursday night Arabic
service, largely lay-led with an interdenominational liturgical
structure. It is hoped to call an Arabic pastor as well as a pastor for
the interior ministry based in Sohar. The three Friday services in the
Gala church are conducted in English. The preaching and leadership of
these services rotate amongst the four clergy. The largest service at
9.15 a.m. is a contemporary style service while the 11.15 a.m. is more
traditional, along Protestant lines. The evening service uses an
Anglican format, while the Sunday evening service held in the Ruwi
church follows an order of worship similar to Baptist. The Anglican presence in the PCO is as a partner with the Reformed Church in America and both partners provide the two co-Chaplains who serve under the authority of the council. Following the departure of the Revd Dr. Mike Clarkson, the Revd Canon Ben Chase stepped into the breach and in June will have completed six months of locum ministry bringing healing and pastoral care. |
