The
good news is that Peter and Nancy Crooks are now back in Aden after 7
months away when Peter was so very ill with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
Members of the "Friends" wish Peter well as he and Nancy pick up the
threads again in a very busy schedule at the Ras Morbat clinic.
They tell us of the excitement of taking delivery of a brand new Toshiba
Ultrasound and a Swiss made ECG machine.
Valentina, a much loved midwife,
returned home to Moscow last year. Now there is a great need for a
midwife/gynaecologist. In 2005, 12,000 patients were seen in the
medical clinic and 6,000 outpatients in the eye clinic with 1,172 eye
operations being performed. Dr. Osmany carries out most of the
operations but visiting surgeons (either volunteer or funded by others)
help to reduce the patient pressure on Dr. Osmany considerably.
Highlights of the Autumn included the Remembrance Day services, which
began at Christ Church with the unveiling of a beautiful memorial to the
sixty British airmen, who died in Aden between 1928 and 1940. It
replaced the original which was destroyed in the civil war of 1994.
