The newsletter of the Association of Friends of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf

EDITORIAL

The Diocesan Annual Synod takes place in Larnaca, Cyprus at the end of January. At about this time of the year, and following Synod, I usually receive various Chaplaincy magazines or newsletters and it’s interesting to note that someone who has attended Synod writes a “report”. Often that “someone” has attended synod for the first time. I would say that in every case the report is exciting and informative as the writer enthuses about the week spent sharing with the Diocesan “Family”; a week that starts with a Quiet Day, has daily worship and the opportunity to listen to chaplaincy reports.

There is so much to learn about the different chaplaincies from just listening to these reports. Synod seems to be growing ever more popular as the number of observers grows joining with the Chaplains, their wives and the delegates. This year the total number attending was 150 with the “Friends” being well represented. It was a joy to have Bishop Michael from Exeter and Bishop Gideon from Kenya and joining with our own Bishop Clive in celebrating the Synod Eucharist in St. Paul’s Cathedral, Nicosia.

I hope that the following pages will bring you up to date with what is happening in the chaplaincies.
