Report from our Link Diocese of Exeter

In the past year we again reported to the Cyprus and the Gulf Annual Diocesan Synod in Larnaca attended by both the Bishop Exeter and the Bishop of Thika - our new and third Companion from Kenya.  At Synod we received a particularly large number of requests for clergy locum cover due to vacancies in the Chaplaincies.

We have received and distributed regular reports in the Exeter Diocese about the church in Iraq, (and all other Chaplaincies) including the exciting fact of a Mothers' Union Branch being started there.  Bishop Clive is speaking to the Diocesan Mothers' Union Council in Exeter in October.

The St. George's Baghdad appeal has been widely supported throughout the Exeter Diocese and so far ₤6,500 has been send to Nicosia.  As a result of this appeal, one parish sought a direct contact with Iraqi children worshipping at St. George's, but unfortunately this has not been possible yet due to language difficulties.

Some 10,000 palm crosses were once again received, with many thanks, and distributed to our parishes with the help of the Exeter University Chaplain and students.

We look forward to welcoming the new Archdeacon in Cyprus at our Annual Open Meeting in Exeter.  During the whole of July we have an annual exhibition in Exeter Cathedral about our link which is master-minded by Jane Wilson.

Our Executive of the Exeter Liaison Group is due to be reappointed by the end of this year.  I would like to pay tribute to those who work to keep our Link active, and the Deanery Link people who, hopefully, keep in touch with the Chaplaincies overseas and vice versa.  We really do rely on the news they exchange in order to hear bout activities and needs.
