The Chairman's Report |
|
It is hard to believe that this is my tenth year as
Chairman of the Friends and reluctantly I have decided that it is time
for a new Chairman to take over. I have felt very privileged to have
been Chairman for such a long time and Maureen and I have really enjoyed
our time with the Friends. We will continue to attend events but now I
will be able to sit back and grumble at all the decisions the new
Chairman makes! I have been so fortunate to have had Mary Banfield as
Secretary/Treasurer during the whole time of my period in office, as
without her I may have had to do some work. I am also fortunate that
constitutionally we have a Vice Chairman, Michael Lee. Michael is very
busy with his duties at Pilgrim Hall but he has nevertheless agreed to
succeed me and this will take place during the AG.M. I wish Michael
every success on his appointment and know that he will receive the same
full support of the Committee and Friends that I have had. Our Spring Reunion at Pilgrim Hall was once again a resounding success and this year our numbers were the largest to date. Not bad for an event which we thought we would try, nine years ago, to see if it would work! Our membership numbers and finances are in a reasonable state and once again we will be able to support the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund but this will be held over until a new Bishop is appointed. However, like similar organisations, as members continue to grow older we are not able to recruit as many new members as we would like. This has an implication on finances and our ability to support the Bishop’s Fund to the extent that we have in the past and this matter will be addressed by the Committee in the near future. I would like to thank everyone at All Hallows for the continuing assistance and hospitality, to the ladies of this church for the super buffet they lay on for us each year, to the Committee for all the work they do, and to you all for turning up so regularly!
