Report from our Link Diocese of Exeter |
|
We appreciate the great support Bishop Clive gave over the years to the Exeter link with Cyprus and the Gulf. We join in the congratulations to +Clive on the award of the CMG in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2007 for his work on interfaith matters in the Arab world. We wish Clive and Jane a long and happy retirement in Yorkshire. Last year we were glad to welcome Steve and Kath Collis from Nicosia to our Open Day at Exeter Cathedral and we look forward to the visit this year of Alan and Pam Hayday from Bahrain. Our help with overseas locums continues – but with dwindling resources as there are greater calls in the UK on retired clergy due to our shortages. We were again grateful for the help of the Chaplaincies in providing Palm Crosses for Exeter parishes; over the years this has become a really meaningful exercise in companionship. We are glad to report a new dimension in that Exeter has had on placement for three months in an Exeter parish a Deacon from Nicosia. We hope there will be more to come. 2007 saw the re-appointment of our Liaison Group and it is good to record that there are some new faces. I have completed a decade as leader of our Liaison Group and now hope to hand over to a new leader in the next year but I will continue with my membership of the Friends. We plan also to be represented on your committee as we value this link greatly. So I thank you for your friendship and hope to continue my contact but maybe in a different guise.
