The newsletter of the Association of Friends of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf

	Little did we think that, when the last Olive Branch came out and we were saying “farewell” to Bishop Clive, in this issue we would, so soon, be saying “welcome” to a new Bishop. So, it was with joy that we heard of the appointment of the Rt. Revd Michael Lewis as the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf. The chairman, members of the committee and members of the Association of Friends of the Diocese send greetings to Bishop Michael and Julia and look forward to meeting them on those occasions when they are able to join with the Friends. A little of Bishop Michael’s background can be found elsewhere in this newsletter. We send our congratulations to Bishop Clive on being awarded the Order of St Michael and St George in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for 2007 for services in promoting inter-faith dialogue in the Arab world,
and to The Venerable Dr Ian Young on being awarded an MBE for pastoral and community services in Qatar. Many of you knew Catherine Handford, the daughter of Bishop Clive and Jane, as a little girl and watched her growing up. Catherine was married in July and we have included a photograph, taken on her wedding day, in this issue. At the end of this issue of The Olive Branch you will find “The Terms of Reference” for the Friends. Please read them as they have been amended and may be referred to at the next AGM. Val Taylor
