St. George's Appeal
- 2007
We write to you in the hope that you will be able to encourage your people and parishes to support our parish. Surely it is the most dangerous parish in the world. In the past month we have had over 110 people killed in our road of Haifa Street. 30 bodies were recently hanged on the lamp posts outside of our Church, but people still flock to worship their God. We have learnt that when everything is gone Jesus is all we have left. We, as a church, have to look after all of our people. Increasingly our staff and male members of the Church have been killed, so we have to look after their families, and we do so with joy. With inflation of 77% and the fall of the $US against the Iraqi Dinar, we are now having to find $18,180 per month. This works out at about £300 per day, and we do have many churches that support us for a day covering 35% of the calendar. We are therefore looking for more. Last year the Dioceses of Guildford and Portsmouth supported us as part of their lent appeal; this has dramatically helped us to continue amidst great opposition. We have wonderful people and I love them all. They are so grateful to the Churches in the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf and England for their help in our chaos and tragedy. We will not stop serving the Prince of Peace and we invite you to join with us in our service of God in this difficult place. You will see other information on our site, which will give you a greater idea of our parish.
