Bishop Sean, accompanied by the Reverend Canon Faiz Jerjes and Sinan Kakarash, attended tribal leader Sheikh Saddam al-Attwani’s Majlis on Friday (20 September), welcomed as a guest of honour to emphasise Sheikh Saddam’s desire for religious engagement and peaceful coexistence in Iraq.
Drawing on his experiences of the work of faith communities during the apartheid years in South Africa, Bishop Sean spoke about faith transcending tribal and ethnic differences, promoting brotherhood and the mutual flourishing of communities.
Bishop Sean will today meet the British Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hitchen. The next few days will be spent in and around the St George’s compound, meeting parishioners and learning more about the remarkable work of the church led by Fr Faiz, its school and clinic.
