The Scandinavian Church and Christ Church Ayia Napa hosted a moving Taizé service of reflection and meditation this afternoon (18 December)—livestreamed for those unable to join in person. (Watch the service at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090127055994).
Taizé is known for its contemplative atmosphere, offering a space for deep spiritual engagement, and the service was both uplifting and relaxing.
Bible readings, in English, Swedish and Norwegian “resonated deeply with all those present”, said the Reverend George Vidiakin, “symbolizing the unity and diversity of the congregation, and fostering a sense of connection across cultures and languages.”
A key feature of the service was its music, performed by Terje Holmedahl. The chants, a hallmark of Taizé worship, were sung in the three languages of the readings, as well as Latin, further enhancing the beautiful multilingual character of the event. Hymns included beloved pieces such as “Wait for the Lord”, “Ubi Caritas” and “Laudate Omnes Gentes”, filling the church with a tranquil and sacred ambience, drawing all to contemplation in the quiet that followed.
The Scandinavian Church and Christ Church Ayia Napa expect to hold more Taizé services in the future, enriching the spiritual lives of the local community and beyond through this uniquely peaceful yet spiritually invigorating worship.
