Holy Communion at St George Baghdad

Bishop Sean presided and preached at a service of Holy Communion at St George Baghdad on Sunday (22 September), assisted by the Reverend Canon Faiz Jerjes. Bishop Sean’s sermon, ably translated by Sinan Kakarash, reflected on the ministry of a bishop and drew on the readings of the day in their call for a Christ-like humility in the Church. Before his departure from Iraq on Monday, Bishop Sean held a very positive meeting with the Prime Minister’s Minorities Affairs Adviser, HE Mr Nawfal Bahaa.

During his five-day stay in Baghdad, Bishop Sean attended tribal leader Sheikh Saddam al-Attwani’s Majlis on 20 September, as well as visiting Our Lady of Salvation (Sayidat al-Najat) Syriac Catholic Church and Museum. He also met Dr Rami Joseph Aghajan, Head of the Christian, Yazidi and Sabean-Mandaean Endowment Office, who joined the congregation on Sunday with his wife, Mrs Aghajan, and their young son.

Bishop Sean was also able to spend time with Canon Faiz in and around the St George compound, learning more about the valued work of its clinic and St George’s School of the Redeemer.
