Bishop Sean is pleased to announce that the Reverend Christine Mbona is to be ordained to the priesthood, in a service to be held at 1000 on 30 May 2025 at St Paul Ahmadi in Kuwait.
Revd Christine, a Zimbabwean national, was ordained deacon in 2023–the first African woman to be ordained in the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf. In 2024, she took the lead in establishing the Diocesan Mothers’ Union, of which she is president and Pauline Mitra co-president, with Bishop Sean as patron. Christine is a committee member of the MU Worldwide Council, representing the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East.
“Revd Christine has worked tirelessly to support the people of St Paul Ahmadi, and for the wider Diocese and beyond through the Mothers’ Union,” said Bishop Sean—encouraging anyone interested in setting up an MU branch in their parish to contact Christine (mothers.union@cypgulf.org).
Christine is near completion of her Bachelor of Theology degree through the Diocesan Exploring Faith programme, run in conjunction with Queen’s College Newfoundland, and she has a Certificate in Religion, Peace and Reconciliation from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
Having worked for over 30 years in education as a primary school teacher, Christine is undertaking a Bachelor in Education Special Needs (BEDSN) from the European International University in Paris.
Revd Christine is married to the Venerable Dr Michael Mbona, Archdeacon in the Gulf.
“Please pray,” she asks, “for our children, Gerald Takudzwa, Reginald Masimba, Ronald Zvikomborero, our daughter-in-law Nyasha and Michaela, our granddaughter.”
