Confronting grief and silence: Ayia Napa marks Good Friday

A joint Good Friday service in Ayia Napa drew together the Scandinavian Church and Christ Church in a spirit of shared worship and Christian fellowship.

The service was conducted according to the order of the Church of Sweden and led by the Reverend Anders Bondesson assisted by the Reverend George Vidiakin, with hymns sung in both Swedish and English reflecting the international character of the worshipping community.

In the Scandinavian tradition, Good Friday is known as ‘Long Friday’—a name that captures the solemnity and weight of the day’s remembrance.

In his reflection, Fr Anders spoke with pastoral sensitivity about the challenge of holding on to hope in the midst of tragedy. Drawing a parallel with the experience of losing a loved one, he reflected on how Good Friday confronts us with the reality of grief and silence.
