At dawn this morning of Easter Day, members of Christ Church Ayia Napa gathered on Ayia Thekla beach to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord.
The congregation stood in prayer and praise, witnessing a sign of the new era inaugurated by Christ’s victory over death. Reflecting on the great biblical story of the Exodus they recalled the passing of the Israelites through the Red Sea—that decisive act of liberation that was a profound symbol of the freedom granted through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ; the freedom from sin, fear, injustice and death.
Worshippers renewed their baptismal vows, reaffirming their commitment to Christ and to the life into which they have been called. The sea served as a living reminder of baptism itself: a passage through death into new life, a sharing in the risen life of Christ.
Following the sunrise service worshippers joined with members of St John’s Deryneia, gathered beside the chapel of St Thecla.
