Bishop Sean joins iftar gatherings in Cyprus

As the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end this week, Bishop Sean joined the Reverend Alec Mitchell for iftar in north Cyprus today—guests of Murat Şenkul, the Mayor of Girne (Kyrenia). In the course of the evening, they were fortunate to spend time with Imam Mehmet Akif Millet.

Fr Alec is parish priest at St Andrew Kyrenia.

Last night (Thursday), Bishop Sean attended iftar at Omeriye mosque in the Old City of (south) Nicosia in the Republic, where he was welcomed by Sheikh Jebril al-Haien.

“It was a great pleasure to be in the company of Sheikh Jebril, of Mayor Şenkul, of Imam Mehmet, and the people gathered on each side of this island to share iftar,” said Bishop Sean. “Such warm and gracious hosts are to be treasured, and I hope to be able to return their generous gifts of food and conversation.”
