Celebrating confirmation at St Mark Famagusta

The congregation of St Mark Famagusta celebrated the confirmation of Eathan on Sunday, at a service led by Bishop Sean assisted by ordinand Henry Ikediego.

Addressing Eathan, Bishop Sean reflected on John 14:20, saying: “God, in whom we live and move and have our being, has brought you to this moment—and as the people of God here we are delighted and praise God for his work in your life.”

“Confirmation is a sacrament of Commitment and the Holy Spirit,” said Bishop Sean. “We cannot live a life of commitment to Jesus Christ in our own strength. Left to ourselves, we falter, we hesitate, we grow weary. As you commit yourself anew to Christ today, we will lay hands on you and pray for the Holy Spirit, the Advocate who is in us, and with us, to abide with you for ever.”

And he called on Eathan to remember “wherever you go—school, sports, the mall or online—you carry the presence of Christ within you. You are called to live differently. You are called to care deeply. You are called to loving service of your neighbour.

“May the Holy Spirit give you grace to live a Christlike life of faith, hope and love. To the glory of God the Father, Amen.”
