Major General Tom Bewick, Commander British Forces Cyprus, hosted Bishop Sean and Air Vice-Marshal Giles Legood at Flagstaff House in Episkopi yesterday.
It was Bishop Sean’s great pleasure to have lunch with Maj Gen Bewick, who oversees all Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force personnel stationed on the island and is administrator of Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, and AVM Legood—Chaplain-in-Chief of the Royal Air Force.
Bishop Sean also had a chance to tour RAF Akrotiri and Episkopi Station with AVM LeGood and Anglican chaplains the Reverend Nia Williams and the Reverend Adele Rees (pictured).
The first bishop of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf, the Right Reverend Len Ashton, was a former RAF Chaplain-in-Chief. Many of our first clergy were retired forces chaplains, and Bishop Sean is keen to further strengthen relationships with the armed forces operating in the countries of the Diocese.
