Members of the Bishop’s Task Force (BTF) gathered over the weekend via Zoom for their second meeting—with members in the UAE, including Bishop Sean, joining from St Andrew Abu Dhabi.
The group was established following a motion passed at Synod in February, calling for the establishment ofa task force under the leadership of the bishop to present new Diocesan organisational models at an Extraordinary Meeting of Synod in September 2025.
Opening the meeting on Saturday, Bishop Sean referred to the February Synod theme—A hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11), and called upon members to “above all recognise that we are involved in God’s vision and not our own”.
Task force members are currently engaged in drawing up a vision and mission statement for the Diocese, as well as building up a more detailed picture of parishes and congregations across the archdeaconries. The work of the task force will be informed by the findings of the Gulf Enhanced Episcopal Leadership group, as well as feeding into that of the Constitutional Review Committee—a process that includes assessing due representation of Gulf parishes in wider Diocesan structures.
BTF terms of reference were adopted at its opening session in April. Members will next meet in June.
