Bishop Sean met with Primate of the Province of Alexandria the Most Reverend Samy Shehata and the clergy of the Diocese of Egypt on Thursday, for a clergy training day held at All Saints Cathedral Cairo.
Archbishop Samy, who is Bishop of the Diocese of Egypt, invited Bishop Sean to speak on the theme of Vision and Motivation, addressing a gathering of some 25 members of clergy and their wives.
Bishop Sean noted the importance of spiritual discernment when developing vision in the Church, basing his reflections on the classic Ignatian principles of discernment. He also addressed issues of clergy motivation and demotivation, inviting participants to consider their experience of ministry in the light of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
“I am very grateful to Archbishop Samy for his warm welcome to me, as a new Bishop in the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East,” said Bishop Sean. “I look forward to working with Archbishop Samy and with Archbishop Hosam, in leading our dioceses amidst the many challenges faced in our region.”
