Bishop Camillo Ballin

Our brother in Christ Bishop Camillo Ballin MCCJ died in Rome on 12 April 2020, (Western) Easter Day, and we give thanks for his life.

Bishop Camillo was in charge of the Roman Catholic Apostolic Vicariate (meaning missionary diocese) of Northern Arabia, based in Bahrain. He had been a bishop since 2005.

A native of the Padua region of northern Italy, he was 75 and had been a Comboni Missionary for many years, serving in Cairo, the Lebanon, Rome and Kuwait. Latterly he had been granted Bahraini citizenship by His Majesty the King.

Bishop Camillo was a firm ecumenical friend, collaborating with Christians of other traditions for the common good of all in northern Gulf countries. May his soul and the souls of all the departed rest in peace and, risen, know God’s glory.

+ Michael
