The Reverend Gill Nisbet, long-serving priest at St Andrew Abu Dhabi, is to leave her role as associate priest at the end of May.
At her final service at St Andrew’s earlier this month, Bishop Sean celebrated Revd Gill’s steadfast pastoral ministry and sacrificial dedication to the congregation of St Andrew’s over more than 20 years. Gill will be appointed as a Canon of St Christopher’s Cathedral in Bahrain later in the year and will hold a Permission to Officiate in the Diocese.
“Little did I anticipate when I was Ordained in 2003 that I would spend most of my ministry as a priest in the UAE at St Andrew’s Church in Abu Dhabi,” says Revd Gill.
Gill and her family arrived in the UAE in 2005. Soon after, the then-bishop, Clive Handford, granted her Permission to Officiate.
“It has been life-giving and joyful to serve God as a shepherd in this place, and to be part of a wonderfully diverse Diocese,” says Revd Gill.
“My prayer ‘mantra’ has always been to ‘walk in the way of the Lord all the days of my life’, serving and giving in ministry in small ways that glorify God—and I find particular inspiration in the words of St Therese of Lisieux: ‘Holiness consists in simply doing God’s will, and being just what God wants us to be.’
“Thank you to all of you—past and present,” says Gill. “Please pray for me, as I will surely pray for you.”
